still small voice: exhibition workshop

2015
03.17

On Thursday 12 March, 15 year 8 students were invited to take part in a workshop based on the still small voice exhibition at The Wilson Museum & Art Gallery in Cheltenham.

“still small voice: British biblical art in a secular age is an exclusive opportunity to see major works by influential 20th century British artists including Stanley Spencer, Eric Gill, Jacob Epstein, Barbara Hepworth, Edward Burra and Graham Sutherland. Exploring ideas around creativity, crisis and the human experience, this is a major exhibition for 2015.”

The workshop was led by Angus Pryor, Leader of Fine Art at the University of Gloucestershire, who curated the exhibition. First the students visited the exhibition, then made some drawings before printing with cabbages and leeks to produce textured surfaces. They layered up the work with figures and images from their chosen piece. They were encouraged to create their own narrative for their work and the resulting pieces showed real maturity and all of the students reported that they had a great day. Thanks to Angus Pryor and the Wilson Museum and Art Gallery for such a wonderful opportunity.
