Aimhigher Dance & Art Initiative

To encourage pupils in Years 7 and 8 to work hard and form links with the higher education college the Aimhigher Special Development Fund is enabling pupils to work with a dance lecturer from the University of Gloucestershire and a professional visual artist.

Over twenty pupils have worked with Emily Young and Simon Packard over four weeks to develop movement based on ideas from Gloucester docks.  The flow of water and importance of light as the weather changes acting as stimulus for the concept.  Pupils have considered imaginative ideas based around the set design and costumes to support their performance.  Pupils have been working extra hard at lunchtimes and at a Saturday Morning Dance Workshop to run on 19 June.  The final work will be performed in the theatre at Gloucestershire College on 24 June.

Blue Sky film company are recording the action so the film can be used to promote the importance of working collaboratively towards a final ambitious goal.  The film will also be shown at the new Year 7 induction day in July.

Well done to all those pupils who are working extra hard to achieve this piece.

So pleased with his work he has to hide behind it!

While many of our students went on a trip to Drayton Manor theme park, those that stayed in school had an extraordinary day. Everybody was involved with three sessions: Eco-School- a challenge to design the school the way you want it; Eco-Shelter- making a shelter for a creature of your choice out of recycled materials; and Eco-phone.

Some students were taken out of their normal groups to either work with an artist in the Curve or with a Samba drummer in the drama studio.
